What Are Air Fryer Oreos?
Air fryer Oreos are whole Oreo cookies wrapped in a thin layer of dough - either crescent roll dough or puff pastry - then air-fried until golden and crisp.
The hot circulating air in the air fryer mimics the effect of deep frying, creating a beautifully puffed, crispy shell while gently warming the Oreo inside until the cream filling turns slightly soft and gooey.
The finished treats are dusted generously with powdered sugar, making them virtually indistinguishable from the deep-fried version served at county fairs and carnivals.

Air Fryer Oreos Ingredients
- Puff Pastry or Crescent Roll Dough: 1 sheet of Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Sheets (17.3 ounce) is what was used for the puff pastry. Make sure it is thawed before using, it will be difficult to roll out if still frozen.
- Oreos: Use your favorite Oreos here! Double stuff and original both work, other flavors of Oreos would make a fun twist!
- Chocolate Chips: semi sweet or milk chocolate work best for a melted chocolatey texture. Feel free to omit if need be.
- Powdered Sugar: This final dusting isn't just decorative - it's essential to the whole aesthetic and flavor of the finished treat. The fine powder clings to the warm dough, dissolves slightly, and creates a sweet, melt-in-your-mouth coating that is instantly recognizable as the classic carnival style.
- Optional Milk: Brushing with milk adds extra richness, promotes deeper browning, and helps the powdered sugar adhere more evenly. It's not mandatory, but it absolutely elevates the final result.

How To Make Air Fryer Oreos
This is an overview with step-by-step photos. Full ingredients, measurements & instructions are in the recipe card below.
1. Roll Out Pastry Dough and Add Oreos: Start making air fried oreos by rolling out the thawed pastry dough to about 10 inches by 14 inches. Cut it into 14 strips in total and add Oreos on top of each stripl

2. Add a few chocolate chips (about 8) on top of each Oreo.

3. Wrap the dough around the Oreo and chocolate chips, pressing edges together to completely encase the filling.

4. Brush with the milk on the top of the encased oreos.

5. Air Fry Oreos: Heat your air fryer to 360℉ and air fry half of the prepared Oreos for 6-7 minutes, flipping halfway through, or air fry until golden and slightly puffed up. Repeat with the other half of the prepared Oreos.

6. Use tongs to immediately transfer to a plate and sift the powdered sugar over them before enjoying!

Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Oreos Every Time
- Seal the dough tightly. Make sure the oreos and chocolate are completely surrounded by the pastry dough and that all edges are pressed together to close. Any gaps will cause the dough to open up during cooking and the Oreo may partially fall out.
- Don't stretch the dough. Thin dough tears easily and won't puff up into that signature fluffy shell
- Preheat your air fryer. Starting with a hot basket ensures even cooking from the moment the Oreos go in
- Single layer only. Never stack wrapped Oreos on top of each other
- Space them out. Leave at least an inch between each wrapped cookie for proper airflow
- Work in small batches. 4-6 at a time is ideal for most standard-sized air fryers
- Use tongs, not fingers. The dough is delicate when freshly cooked and can tear if handled roughly
- Dust with powdered sugar while warm. The heat helps the sugar stick and partially melt into the surface for a more authentic finish.
- Use a sifter to add the powdered sugar onto the air fried Oreos as soon as they come out of the air fryer, the heat/moisture helps it stick to the cooked dough. If you don't have a sifter, use a small mesh strainer.

Are air fried oreos healthier than deep fried oreos?
Unlike deep-fried Oreos, which require a significant amount of oil and produce a heavier, greasier result, air fryer Oreos use little to no added fat and cook in a fraction of the time.
Why Are My Oreos Sticking to the Basket?
Sticking happens when you don't prep the basket properly or when batter leaks through the grate. Fix it with these steps:
- Use a cookie spatula to gently lift them out after cooking
- Spray the basket generously with nonstick cooking spray right before adding the Oreos .
Why Are My Air Fryer Oreos Soggy?
Soggy dough is almost always caused by overcrowding the basket. Air fryers need circulation to crisp up food, and if your Oreos are touching, steam gets trapped instead of heat circulating around the dough. Always cook in a single layer with space between each Oreo, and work in small batches.

Can you stack Oreos in the air fryer?
No. Stacked Oreos will stick together and the dough cooks unevenly since air can't reach all sides. Cook no more than 4 at a time.
Do I need to flip Air Fryer Oreos?
Yes. Flip halfway through (around the 2-minute mark) so both sides brown evenly.
Should I preheat the air fryer?
Yes. Preheating to 350°F for about 3 minutes before adding the Oreos ensures even cooking from the start and saves time.
What temperature and how long do I air fry Oreos?
The sweet spot is 330-350°F for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through. At 390°F for only 3 minutes, the outside cooks too fast and the inside stays doughy.
