Baked chili hotdogs wrapped in golden pizza dough with melty cheddar and hearty chili-an easy, family-friendly appetizer or game day recipe that bakes in one pan and disappears fast.

This easy baked chili hot dogs recipe is the kind of low-effort, high-reward comfort food that saves weeknights, game days, and "I forgot to plan dinner" nights in one swoop. It uses simple ingredients-canned chili, hot dogs, store-bought pizza dough, and plenty of cheese-to create saucy, cheesy, pull-apart chili dogs that bake together in one pan for minimal cleanup and maximum cozy payoff.

Why you'll love this recipe
- It uses mostly pantry and fridge regulars-canned chili, hot dogs, pizza dough, cheddar-so you can decide to make it at 5 p.m. and still actually eat before 6.
- The whole thing bakes in one pan, which means you get gooey cheese, toasty dough, and saucy chili all mingling together without a sink full of dishes to resent later.
- The wrapped hot dogs feel a little bit like fair food and a little bit like garlic bread, which is to say: absolutely nobody at the table is mad about this.
- It's wildly flexible-swap the cheese, tweak the chili, use different dough-and it still comes out like cozy, messy, eat-with-a-fork comfort food every single time.
Key Ingredients
Chili, pizza dough, hot dogs, and cheddar are all you really need here, plus a quick melted butter "garlic bread" heaven with a sprinkle of parsley to make it look like you tried.
- The canned chili does the heavy lifting, bringing all the cozy, messy, game-night energy without asking you to simmer anything for hours.
- Store-bought pizza crust becomes this stretchy, golden blanket that wraps around the dogs and cheese, turning the whole thing into a soft, bready, pull-apart situation.
- Hot dogs (go for all-beef if you can) are the salty, snappy core, and cheddar melts into those perfect, nostalgic, orange pockets that make everyone suddenly forget they swore they were "cutting back."
- A quick brush of melted butter with garlic powder and a dusting of parsley on top gives you that bakery-baked style appetizer.

Tips for Success
- Preheat the Chili: Once those rolled hot dogs are wrapped and ready, it's time to heat up canned chili! That chili MUST be hot before anything even goes into the oven!
- Use thicker chili, not soupy chili, so it clings to the dogs instead of flooding the pan; if yours is thin, let it simmer a bit longer to reduce before you bake.
- Pat the hot dogs dry before wrapping so the dough grabs on and doesn't slide around like a toddler on a freshly mopped floor.
- Keep the pizza dough cold until you're ready to roll; warm dough stretches too fast, tears, and becomes super frustrating.
- Bake on the middle rack so the bottoms brown without the tops getting too dark; if they're browning fast, tent loosely with foil for the last few minutes.
- Brush the butter-garlic mixture on while the rolls are hot so it soaks in and tastes like you spent much more time on this than you did.

- Place wrapped hot dogs on top of hot chili. MAKE SURE that chili is hot!!!

How to make baked chili hot dogs
1. First you will roll out your pizza dough out of the can and cut it lengthwise into four equal parts.

2. Next, you will cut your cheddar cheese sticks in half. We need them smaller and thinner to fit into the pizza dough. Now roll two of the cheese sticks plus a hot dog inside the pizza dough.

3. Repeat four times.

4. Pour your canned chili into a small saucepan and bring it to a boiling point. Now pour this hot chili into the prepared 11x7 baking dish.
Next, place hot dogs on top of the hot chili. Once again, make sure that your chili is hot! Otherwise, your wrapped hotdogs and pizza dough won't cook through properly!
5. Once your hot dogs are out of the oven, you will top them with garlic butter! You can use garlic powder or fresh garlic, or even olive oil is great! I also like to top these with cream cheese, goat cheese and shredded cheddar cheese. You can also top with things like guacamole, hummus or pesto for an even more loaded baked chili dog! Note that these are best served immediately so that the pizza dough doesn't become soggy.

Why is my pizza dough soggy on the bottom?
If the chili is very liquidy, it will soak into the dough and keep it from baking up crisp. Use a thicker chili or simmer canned chili for a few minutes to reduce excess liquid before adding it to the pan.
Also make sure the hot dogs are dry and the pan is not overloaded with sauce-aim for a light blanket of chili, not a soup.
The cheese leaked out. What went wrong?
Cheese usually escapes through gaps in the dough. Roll the pizza crust snugly and firmly pinch the seams underneath and at the ends of each wrapped hot dog.
If your dough is very warm and stretchy, chill it briefly so it's easier to handle and holds a tight seal.
My dough didn't brown nicely. How do I fix that?
Bake on the middle rack and give the tops a quick brush with melted butter before and after baking for better color and flavor.
If the tops are pale but the time is up, leave them in for a few extra minutes, watching closely, or switch on broil for 1-2 minutes, rotating the pan as needed.
The hot dogs split while baking. Is that normal?
Hot dogs can split if they're very tightly wrapped or baked a bit longer, but they're still fine to eat.
To minimize splitting, avoid overbaking and don't stretch the dough too tightly around the hot dogs.
Easy Substitutions for Baked Chili Hot Dogs
- What can I use instead of pizza dough? Crescent roll dough or refrigerated biscuit dough pressed thin both work for a softer, more buttery wrap. For a chewier bite, stick with pizza dough; for ultra-easy, crescent rolls are the most forgiving option.
- Can I use different cheese? Yes-mozzarella, Colby Jack, pepper jack, or shredded cheddar all melt beautifully.
- If using pre-shredded cheese, pack it in a bit more tightly when rolling so it doesn't fall out as easily.
- What if I don't have canned chili? You can use leftover homemade chili or a thick beef-and-bean chili from the fridge-just warm it slightly so it spreads easily. In a pinch, a mix of browned ground beef, tomato sauce, and taco seasoning can stand in as a quick "cheater" chili.
Storage, Make-Ahead and Leftovers
- Make Ahead: Assemble the wrapped hot dogs up to a day ahead, cover, and refrigerate without the butter topping. When ready to bake, add the chili to the pan, brush with butter, and bake, adding a couple extra minutes if going straight from the fridge.
- Refrigerate: Store in the fridge in the air tight container for up to 4 days.
- How do I reheat baked chili hot dogs? Reheat in a 350°F oven until warmed through so the dough re-crisps slightly and the cheese remelts. For single portions, an air fryer works well-just a few minutes at medium heat keeps the crust from getting tough.
- Can I freeze baked chili hot dogs? Bake, cool completely, then freeze individually on a sheet before transferring to a freezer bag. Reheat from frozen in the oven, covered with foil for the first part so they heat through, then uncovered for a few minutes to refresh the crust.
