Okay, I'll admit it - I did not expect to become a person who does grocery shopping at 2 AM. And yet here I am, happily loading up a cart in the middle of the night at Food Bazaar in Douglaston, Queens, like it's the most normal thing in the world.

Food Bazaar in Douglaston just flipped to 24/7 hours this week (as of May 27, 2026), and it's already changing how I shop. The Douglaston location now runs around the clock, with midnight-to-6 AM specials that make those late-night runs actually worth it.
For those of you who haven't been, Food Bazaar is one of those rare grocery stores that genuinely feels like a bazaar - an overwhelming, beautiful, chaotic abundance of ingredients you didn't know you needed until they were right in front of you. The Douglaston location has always been a favorite of mine for its unusually deep selection, but the new around-the-clock hours combined with midnight-to-6 AM specials? That changes everything for night owls, early risers, and honestly anyone who does their best meal planning when the rest of the world is asleep.

The Midnight Specials Are Worth Staying Up For
The store runs specials from midnight through 6 AM, which means if you're willing to show up when most people are dreaming, you're rewarded. I'm talking marked-down proteins, discounted produce, and deals on pantry staples that make stocking your kitchen feel like a strategic win. I've already learned to keep a tote bag by the door and check what's on special before I head out. It's become a weird, wonderful ritual.
Okay, the Chicken Section Though
I grill a lot. Like, a lot. And the chicken selection here is one of the best I've come across in Queens - bone-in legs and thighs, whole birds, drumsticks, solid pricing, and really good quality. I've been picking up chicken legs here on repeat lately because I have three recipes I keep cycling through depending on my mood.
Right now I'm rotating between three recipes depending on my mood. My new BBQ Ranch Chicken Legs are rich, smoky, and ridiculously satisfying off the grill - the kind of recipe that makes you look like you spent all day on it when you really didn't. When I want to bake, I reach for my Sriracha Chicken Legs, which have that slow-building spice that coats every bite. And when I'm feeling I want something hot, my Peri Peri Chicken Thighs - bright, punchy, and deeply flavorful - are everything. Food Bazaar's chicken prices, especially during the overnight specials, make experimenting with all three feel completely justified.

The Baking Aisle Is Quietly Exceptional
I wasn't expecting the baking aisle to stop me in my tracks, but here we are. The selection is genuinely well-stocked - good flour, specialty sugars, quality extracts, and an assortment of mix-ins that go well beyond the basics. It's the kind of aisle that makes you text yourself a list of recipes you suddenly want to make.
Speaking of which - they carry wild blueberries, which is not something I take for granted. Wild blueberries are smaller, more intensely flavored, and far superior to the cultivated ones for baking. I use them in my Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls, where their concentrated flavor holds up beautifully against the warm cinnamon filling, and in my Blueberry Crumb Cake, where they burst into little pockets of jammy fruit in every slice. If you see them, grab two bags. Trust me.

Hot Honey: Buy It, Use It Everywhere
Food Bazaar carries hot honey, and if you haven't made it a permanent fixture in your kitchen yet, this is your sign. I've been drizzling it over everything lately, but my current obsession is my Hot Honey Nectarine Burrata Salad or Spicy Peach Margarita- peak summer on a plate, sweet and spicy and creamy all at once. Hot honey also does something transformative to pizza, roasted vegetables, and cheese boards, so pick up an extra bottle while you're at it.

Cheesecake People, You're Welcome
For my fellow dessert people: the prepared foods and bakery section has a solid cheesecake presence, which I always appreciate because cheesecake is one of those desserts that requires either real commitment or finding a really good shortcut. That said, nothing beats homemade, and Food Bazaar's cream cheese selection in the dairy aisle is excellent for building your own. My cheesecake recipes live here if you need a starting point - no-bake versions included for when you don't want to turn on the oven.
If you're in a no-bake mood, my No Bake Berry Cheesecake and No-Bake Oreo Cheesecake are easy wins. For something a little different, I love my No-Bake Peanut Butter Cheesecake and No-Bake Coffee Cheesecake Pie.
If you want to go all in, my Instant Pot Oreo Cheesecake is surprisingly simple, and my Turtle Cheesecake with Caramel and Chocolate is one of those desserts that feels like a full event. And for something a little more portion-friendly, my Strawberry Mini Cheesecakes are always a hit.

What to Cook With Your Food Bazaar Haul
This is really where Food Bazaar shines - you walk in for "a few things" and leave with the start of at least five different meals. If you're stocking up during those overnight specials, here are some easy ways to turn that haul into actual dinners:
- Ground chicken or fresh buns โ Smash Chicken Burger with spicy mayo and bacon.
- Italian sausage, mushrooms, pantry staples โ Sausage Bolognese ร la Vodka, rich and creamy with just enough edge.
- Chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes, cream โ Chicken Fettuccine with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Mushrooms, one of those weeknight pastas that feels like more.
- Flank steak from the meat section โ Chimichurri Marinated Flank Steak, perfect for grilling season.
- Sausage + mushrooms (always in stock here) โ Creamy Mushrooms and Sausage, simple and deeply savory.
- Short ribs or chuck roast from the butcher โ Red Wine Braised Short Ribs or Red Wine Braised Beef Chuck Roast, both worth the slow cook.
It's the kind of place where one grocery run turns into a full week of actually good meals - not just "what's in the fridge" dinners, but things you're genuinely excited to make.
Going 24/7 Was the Right Call
There's something really freeing about a grocery store that's just always open. Whether you work nights, wake up at 5 AM with cooking ideas, or just function better when the store isn't crowded - Food Bazaar in Douglaston now works around your schedule instead of the other way around. And with those midnight specials making the late-night run actually worth it, I don't see myself going back to normal grocery hours anytime soon.
Go once after midnight. Load up on chicken. Grab the wild blueberries and the hot honey. Spend too long in the baking aisle. You'll get it.
